About Me

My name is April... I was born in Harbor City, California and spent much of my childhood living out west in sunny Arizona before relocating to New York City at age 10. I love going back to visit but I'm a city girl through and through. I was raised in my Grandparents' home... My Grandfather was a church planter who established several churches throughout the city before setting down roots in the Bronx. He also was a co-founder of the council that oversaw churches throughout the United States, Central and South Americas and the Caribbean.  His Pastoral ministry was formative (to say the least) in my life and at an early age, I felt a strong calling to the ministry. I became a Sunday school teacher at age 11 and also preached my very first sermon at a children's service at that age. By 12 years old, I was the youngest person in my church to have been invited to preach to the general assembly (yes, men too) and by age 16 the youngest to join the church's leadership team as Director of Children's Ministry.  When I began to serve the local church, it was as if my heart began leaping and glowing with love I never even realized I'd had inside. It is a profound experience to connect with your destiny...

Since then I've moved on to take theology classes at  Fordham University  (where I completed my undergraduate degree - first generation college graduate!) and a Fellowship that totally changed my life with the City Seminary of NY. I'm currently working on a Master's in Global Ministry at the seminary.          I served in a "mega-church" here in the City for about a year before setting down roots of my own at an amazing local church and serving there in many ways- preaching first to children, then to the general assembly (yes, men too) Singing, Leading teams, Heading up community service efforts and more. Though I did fight it for a long time, I accepted the role of Co-Pastor at my local church in 2024 and am blessed to lead the congregation alongside my Husband, our church's Founder and Lead Pastor. I'm also Mama to an incredible boy and Motherhood is my first ministry.

Being a Pastor's Kid & then becoming a Pastor's Wife has formed a great deal of my relationship to ministry, even as I wrestle with and work towards the calling of God on my own life.

Over the years ministry has been both my friend and at times, my enemy
It has been both a companion and at times an idol
It has been both an honor and at times a heavy burden

Growing up in the church, I was always referred to as a "Church Girl" and that label has been positive and negative in different seasons. It has been a journey of learning and trying to strive for both excellence in Ministry and Personal Communion with God.  I have gotten it wrong many times during this journey of leadership and ministry. My resume is impressive, I have 20+ years "in the game" but yes... I've missed the mark.  It is those experiences that have taught me the most and I'm not afraid to share them. I hope my candor will both surprise and enlighten you but most of all, I hope it will minister to you. After-all, that's what makes my heart leap and that's why I'm here :)

I hope you enjoy and can connect with some of the content on here. Feel free to connect with me via the links on this site. I'm always eager to learn and hear new stories.

Paz,
